A set of embroidered napkins - red roses

Let us recall the times of childhood and the time of preparations for Easter, it was a joyful time when spring returned, nature came to life, we sowed watercress, planted daffodils in a pot, we felt a breath of fresh air. We also waited impatiently for painting the eggs and decorating the basket. First, we put a washed and ironed white napkin into the basket, carefully arrange Easter eggs, bread, sausage, cake, sugar lamb, salt and pepper. We tied a ribbon bow and proudly went to sacrifice the basket.

Embroidery on a napkin is made by hand and machine embroidery. It has nothing to do with computer embroidery and nothing happens automatically. It is a historic method that has been used by Folk Artists in the Łowicz region for nearly 100 years. Our embroiderer, Mrs. Zosia, makes it on the traditional Singer machine with the foot turned off and the material moving mechanism. This embroidery is characterized by the fact that the machine only pulls the thread, while the embroidery machine guides the fabric herself to make the planned pattern. The machine only speeds up the work a bit, and at the same time makes it easier to decorate thinner fabrics. It is still a person who decides about every smallest element of the pattern, about the arrangement of the threads, and the finishing of the embroidery. The machine is set in motion with a foot pedal, all movements of the hoop depend on the movements of the hand - therefore neither the foot nor the clove is used. This type of embroidery is considered a handicraft.
